Correct Order Of Skincare Products

Many people are confused about how to layer different skincare products such as toners, serums, moisturizers, cleansers, etc.

And, to be honest, with the number of products available in the markets, I get why this would be such a complicated thing to grasp.

Among numerous products recommended for use on the face, how should you identify which exact pattern to use?

You're not going to be able to manage that. That's why I wrote this post to help simplify it all for you.

I'll be talking about steps you should follow to have the correct order of your skincare routine.

Continue reading if you are unsure about the correct order of skincare.

Step 1: Cleansing

The order of skincare starts with cleansers. The first step in your skincare regimen is Cleansing

It's necessary to remove all the debris, makeup, and extra oil from your skin because your skin needs to breathe.

Cleansers are of two types: oil-based and water-based.

Oil Cleansers:

First, I'd want to discuss oil cleansers. It is a method of eliminating makeup and extra sebum from your face by using oil.

Everyone who uses makeup regularly should use an oil cleanser, even those who don't use makeup like applying oil cleansers.

Take one to two pumps of your oil cleanser, evenly distribute it across your hands, and then gently massage it into your face.

As you massage the oil into your face, you will see that it begins to break up the existing makeup.

When it comes to oil cleansing, you should always use an oil cleanser on your face when dry since oil and water do not perform well together.

Water-Based Cleansers:

The second type of cleanser is a water-based or foaming cleanser.

Before using any water-based cleanser, make sure your skin is somewhat wet.

When applying a water-based cleanser, make sure not to spend over sixty seconds cleansing your skin since this may be very harsh on your skin.

And you don't want to overdo it and disrupt your skin's natural moisture balance, which is unhealthy.

Step 2: Face Masks

Next, the product that is most popular in the skincare community is a face mask

Some people are uncertain about when and how to use a face mask.

Experts advise using a face mask after cleansing your skin since you don't want your pores clogging with oil, makeup, or debris before applying a face mask.

You won't be able to get all of the beneficial ingredients deep into your pores.

You should apply a face mask on your face for no more than 15 minutes.

Whether it's a sheet mask, a gel mask, a clay mask, or an exfoliating mask.

Pay attention to the time it says to leave on your face. After the face mask, gently rinse off your skin with water but don't clench your skin.

Step 3: Spot Treatment

The following step is a spot treatment. Treatment can include a wide array of products.

The first of these is a salicylic acid serum. Salicylic acid is ideal for those with oily or congested skin.

It is the best treatment for you if you have blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples.

Salicylic acid contains tiny molecules and can penetrate down deep into the skin.

Apply a salicylic acid serum after you have applied your face mask.

In that manner, the tiny molecules can penetrate down to the skin's surface without being obstructed by anything.

Salicylic acid focuses on pore minimizing or exfoliation. Take one or two pumps in your palms and gently massage them into your face.

Step 4: Toner

If you prefer to use a toner, such as a hydrating toner. I recommend using it next.

Make sure you do it after applying your exfoliating serum. Take a  few drops in your hand, distribute them across your palm, and then pat them on your skin.

If you want to use an essence, I recommend using it soon after toner. You want to ensure that you receive every single drop-in and all of the benefits.

Put a few drops in your palm, massage them across your hand, and then pop them into the skin.

Step 5: Moisturizer

The next step is a moisturizer since we all know that moisturization is essential for keeping your skin hydrated.

Find the best moisturizer for your skin type. Choose a gel moisturizer if you have oily skin.

For one with dry skin, a cream moisturizer is perfect. When applying moisturizer, pat it gently on your skin.

It absorbs much more effectively, and you'll appear less oily by the time you finish.

Step 6: Sun Protection

The final step in the order of skincare is SPF or Sun Protection.

Sunscreen is the only ingredient proven to be more effective when used as the last step in a skincare routine.

I believe this makes sense since sunscreens, particularly mineral sunscreens, serve as a shield when applied to the skin.

It defends your skin from the sun.

However, if you use sunscreen before applying your essence or toner, you will not get the advantages of sunscreen since it creates a shield on your skin.

Sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are considered safe.

The Bottom Line:

So now you know about the correct order of the skincare products. All you need to do is start implementing it right away.

Also, some people skip toner or essence. It's alright if you don't want to add it to your skincare routine.

Plus, if you are using an eye cream, you should apply it right after applying serum or mask.
